FAMM explores the Face of the Table!!

FAMM Vibe!

Friday Morning Madness calls apon all athetes,

The Scout Team has been all over the mountain over the past few weeks, and has stumbled accross this little beauty. It really does capture the splendour of the City Bowl, and with views of Lions Head, Signal Hill, and the Twelve Apostles... for those early bird athletes, it makes no sense to miss out on an unbelievable start to the weekend!!

The route this week starts at the base of Platteklip Gorge. After barely 15 minutes of Platteklip Grind, we take a right at 'Breakfast Rock', onto the contour path which traverses us along the face of the mighty Table Mountain. We eventually end up at the Contour Beacon which takes in the most awesome views accross Camps Bay and Lions Head.

After some brief VAVT, we'll decend down towards Tafelberg Road which will swoop us gently towards some well earned TIF and Muffins in the Kloof Nek Car Park.

What time: 545am SHARP!!!! We'll all pile into a few selected veee-eehicles (possibly a record number on the back of Camel Man's Beast would be a challenge), and shoot through to the base of Platteklip.

WDIP: Kloof Nek Car Park, immediately on your left as you turn off towards the Cable Station

PHV: TIF and Muffins in the Car Park as a build up to the legendary VIDA for those who dont work, OR, see a VIDA stop on a friday morning as the only way to work!!

Athletes, this promises to be a beauty!! See ya out there!!

Riche then said a few words on a 'how EYB started front', before the Hatt and Balloon award recipients from the year were highlighted once again and the respective athletes were treated to a Jagie shooter as a prize.

Special prizes on the night were the overall 2006 Hatt-award which went to Cam 'The Aviator' Fuller for her huge vibe and enthusiasm throughout the last five months as well as lifting her game and setting off for Kilimanjaro last week.

Dinner was followed by some words from Beef on where we envisage EYB going in the future.

We were both overwhelmed as Moses, Caro, Suza and CFT stepped up to present some gifts that had been organised without our knowledge, among them were a framed and engraved EYB photo each, sun-cream because we always get burnt, a mini car for Beef as he always borrows Mrs Jordaan's, signed Peter Slingsby book's called Walk's with a Fat Dog all as well as money to purchase some much needed sun glasses.

Huge thanks from both of us to all those who contributed and especially to those who organised it.

Dinner was followed by a little easter egg prepared by Riche and Beef, a 25 minute dvd collection of photo's to music, the likes of Chariots of fire, Sunday bloody Sunday (U2), Mr Brightside (The Killers), The Best of you (Foo Fighters), Smiling Faces (Gnarles Barkley) and Suddenly I see (KT Tunstall).

Copies of the DVD are available. To order one send an email to earnyourbreakfast@gmail.com and we'll get one to you for a cost covering fee of R20/dvd.

With the formalities over, the tables were cleared away and a few tekkie's were squeaked on the dance floor.

Huge thanks again to all those who made it to the dinner, to those of you who hadn't been a part of the lifestyle before, we hope you enjoyed the vibe and we hope to see you again.

It was also a good way to say goodbye for now to Nikky Pix, CBFZ (Caroline Butler From Zim), Brige Bass, and Megs Pocha Carkeek as they all set off on their travels. All the best guys!!

Sunday's Earn Your Breakfast activity was substituted for EYBB (Earn Your Beach Bats) and EYST (Earn Your Summer Tan) took full priority on Llandudno Beach.

Constantia Neck - Skeleton Gorge

Beef showing the way above Constantia and out to False Bay

Athletes snaking their way up the steps above Constantia Neck

Hely-Hutchenson Reservoir

Athletes,

After a fantastic EYB dinner at Relish on Saturday night (full report
to come) it's time to get back out onto the mountains.

The weather is looking awesome for Sunday and we can expect to be met
by clear skies and temperatures creeping into the 30's.

We will be heading up the jeep track steps from the Constantia Neck car
park and heading up towards the Hely-Hutchenson Reservoir for some VAVT,
and for those willing to have a dip, a little swim to cool off. We will
then descend via Skeleton Gorge which will be an EYB first.

Swimming is at own risk as it is officially prohibited by the Table
Mountain National Park, but I'm told people do it anyway.

The hike promises spectacular views and some proper vibe.

Where do I park (WDIP): Constantia Neck Car park, be sure to give
Newlands Cricket Ground a wide berth due to the ODI starting at 10am.

Time: 8:45am, on the mountain by 9am.

What to bring: Plenty, plenty, plenty of water!! Sun-cream, hats, snacks
etc. Bathers if willing to give it a go. Warm top.

PHV: A fairly brief post hike vibe will be enjoyed at the Constantia
Neck Hotel as I think there will be some very thirsty athletes by the
time we come off the mountain.

PPHVV (Post "Post Hike Vibe" Vibe): The Earn Your athletes will be
meeting at Kirstenbosch Gardens at 4pm to settle into the vibe before
Cape Town's own Goldfish entertain the crowds between 5:30 and 6:30pm.

Awesome athletes.

See you there!

FAMM takes on the routes of "The West Side"

"The West Side"

With sprained ankles and all, our scout Athletes have carefully chosen this week's FAMM route which will take us back onto the contour paths of Signal Hill, but on the Sea Point/Fresnaye Side...otherwise known as The West Side! We will begin the day's running activities just off Ocean View Drive and head up the hill onto the contour path and gently run our way up the side of the mountain to the base of Lion's Head where, depending on time constraints we'll either run around the base, or take a sharp right at the Blue Gum trees and jog it in along the top of the houses. Some beautiful views, good running time on the legs and a gentle hill to get those heart rates going for the weekend!

What time: 545am sharp...Riche with that new clock of yours we will see you there at dawn!

WDIP: Come along High Level Rd from town - Strand leads into High level Rd - drive quite far along through 2 sets of robots and then at the third set which is Glen Garriff Rd, take a left up the hill and then right into Ocean View Drive. Your second left is Upper Rhine which is a steep dead end rd - put your car into park and start warming up. I'll be there early so look out for the newly branded EYB car!

PHV:
Seen as though we've made the full effort of coming to the West Side, we'll support the Vida on Somerset Rd where we'll take in the sights and sounds of Green Point. A cheeky TIF and muffins will be had at the cars for those who need to rush into the traffic!

So set your alarm clocks once again, warm up those FAMM legs and get ready for another inspirational morning out on the mountains!

Expected VAVT

2-Day ARANGIESKOP AWAY HIKE - 2/3rd December!!!

ARANGIESKOP Summit

Some Past Winter Summit VAVT!

EPIC!

Overnight Arangies Hut

Athletes,

Who is up for this ultimate Western Cape EPIC? Next weekend the EYB Hiking Vibe will attempt the 2-day Arangieskop Hiking Trail Epic in the magnificent mountains near Robertson.

In his book Weekend Trails Mike Lundy writes the following about Arangieskop:

"Despite being born as recently as March 1992, this is the mother and father of all trails in the Western Cape. It is destined to become to the Western Cape what the Otter Trail is to South Africa - the Prince of Trails. But like the Otter Trail, it is neither for the faint of heart nor for the weak of limb. There are many words to describe this two-day endurance test, but I'll settle for SPECTACULAR."

From all accounts, this will be a tough one, but for those who consider themselves fairly hiking fit, it really is considered to be one of the most beautiful trails in the Western Cape with the summit at well above 1700m. On both days, there are spots to VAVT and swim, and the overnight hut at the summit promises unbelievable views accross the Koo Valley.

We would like to make final bookings for the trail by Tuesday next week, so for those who are interested, please contact us on earnyourbreakfast@gmail.com by the end of Monday. Once we have numbers we'll get into the nitty gritty of the trail!!

Who's keen to push their limits?

Awesome!!
