The Kalk Bay hills are alive with the sound of Athletes

Where are we hiking?

Logistics
Athletes,

This Sunday will see EYB Athletes tackle the glorious mountains of Kalk Bay in an epic that will provide athletes with an awesome range of amazing rock formations, caves (no caves will be dabbled into unfortunately), waterfalls, and the beautiful indigenous Echo and Spes Bona Valley's. The hike can range from 2 1/2hrs to 4hrs - so depending on the weather and the turnout we will play the route by ear!

We will initially head out on the Oukraal Path up through Echo Valley passing by the Amphitheatre on our right. We'll then decend on an awesome contour path around Klein-Tuinkop Peak and Maiden Peak and detour slightly to a waterfall for a well earned break and some VAVT!! A gentle jeep track ascent takes us back around and up towards Speciosa Valley, on top of which is a pretty awesome view down towards Kalk Bay and out over False Bay!! We'll then descend back down towards Kalk Bay via Spes Bona Valley to a well earned PHV!! Again the route might be adjusted on the morning if the weather man playes us the rain card!

What Time: 8:30am, ready to get on the mountain as early as possible!

Place - Where do I Park : indicated on the Slingsby Map above. If travelling towards St James/Kalk Bay there is a choice to either travel high along Boyes drive in which case the start of the Oukraal path should be clearly marked. Its nearing the end of Boyes drive, just before turning left down into Kalk Bay. If travelling along the Main Road, turn right at the robots just past Cafe Olympia into Clairvaux Rd. This will take you around to the right and up onto Boyes Drive.

Post Hike Vibe: There is a host of awesome spots around this neck of the woods, but the Brass Bell is an old favourite and will likely be a pretty chilled vibe. If we make it down in time for breakfast, Olympia Cafe is a must!

What To Bring: All the normal goods. It's always great on a longer walk to pack some substantial supplies of food, coffee, tea, water etc. Also pack some wet weather gear, warm tops and beanies if the weather looks grey.

Four legged Athletes: Dogs are welcome on this route!

This is a beautiful hike once again, and one that we've been wanting to revisit since last year! So for those Athletes out there wanting some mountain time this weekend, pack your gear, get your hiking boots shined up and see you out there on Sunday ready to Earn Your Breakfast!!
